Sorma goes greener

Sorma strongly empowers its commitment for the environment protection by reducing the impact of its activity. In these weeks the company, leader in the distribution of cutting tools for metalworking industry and diamond superabrasive tools, completed the conversion of secondary packaging from plastic to a new type of eco-friendly material..

The conversion has been developed following two main drivers:

  • plastic bubble wrap has been replaced by a special paper made of grass fibres and FSC certified paper;
  • standard plastic tape has been replaced by a special tape made of paper and natural rubber that can be fully recycled together with the cardboard box.

For the future, the company is planning a forum with its partners and launch project for the reduction of the use of plastics, wherever possible, even in primary packaging.

Replacing plastics with eco-friendly materials is just one of the areas identified by the company to lower its environmental impact. Another important step for Sorma has been the set-up of a photovoltaic plant on the Logistic Centre to produce alternative energy and limit the use of fossil fuel.

«We are aware that our decisions are a small drop in the ocean of the environment emergency – says Elena Galluzzi, Communication Manager Sorma - Our individual actions as well as those carried on by other small and medium-size enterprises may not be enough.  Nevertheless, we believe that we cannot give up and that we should all fight against indifference: we must expect more from ourselves and from the whole world».
